Mental Wellbeing in the MICE industry: The impact of the global pandemic
Mental wellbeing is a topic of much discussion in the wider world, but even more so in the MICE industry. Having been struck so significantly by the impact of the global pandemic the MICE industry and more specifically incentive travel professionals have in recent times been more susceptible to mental health issues. An industry already widely perceived to be amongst the most stressful (infact it was voted 6th most stressful job in the world by CareerCast in 2019) has been devastated causing huge job losses, uncertainty in-employement, business failure and much much more.
The team at SITE Great Britain wished to create a conversation around the challenges faced by our wider community, providing a platform for open discussion. We did this through a panel discussion in the form of a virtual event on 26th February 2021. Our panel was formed of:
Claire Gardner - Operations Director at Eventful
Helen Moon - Founder and Chief Exec at Eventwell
Jo Beames - Director at JG Collection
Maria Valentine - Founder & CEO at Yellow Fish
Oliver Palmer - Global Luxury Account Director at Marriott Luxury Brands
Due to the powerful impact of the stories shared throughout this conversation, with the permission of our panel, we would like to share the recording of this event with you all and hope that the bravery and candidness of our panel may help others.
