Member spotlight: Ami Dorkings, Penguins Events – DRPG

Susie HarwoodBlog

After taking a year out to travel and live overseas, Ami found her passion and knew she wanted to find a job that allowed her to see the world. “Learning the ropes within pharmaceutical events, I realised there was more to life than airport hotels and compliance so ventured into the world of incentive travel with Penguins. Now as a senior project manager specialising in reward and recognition, I can say creating unique experiences and everlasting memories for guests is my dream job.”

The elevator pitch…

With over 30 years’ experience, Penguins’ reward and recognition solutions are tailored to our client’s needs, focusing on getting to know each client, their staff and their culture With a strong focus on choice, personalisation and sustainability, Penguins create memorable experiences bespoke to each client.

What’s new?

We created an industry report in 2021 reviewing the road to recovery for incentives and key trends, which are still rolling into 2022. One of our key findings highlighted the importance of choice and personalisation within reward and recognition. We have since received feedback from delivered incentives that 98% of attendees preferred having a choice in the way they were rewarded, leaving them feeling more valued and appreciated. This is a key focus to any reward programme we deliver.

Most memorable moment

For some reason they always seem to involve a helicopter! The memory of taking to the skies over Whistler, landing to a private ice cave lunch will always give me goosebumps. But it’s closely followed by being interviewed by CNN to discuss the value of reward and recognition and incentive travel – a real career highlight!

Dream incentive

If budget was limitless, I would take a group to Necker Island. Renting your own private island truly is a once in a lifetime experience!

Sun or snow?

I will always choose vitamin D and that first hit of heat as you disembark the plane. It also tends to make organisation of an incentive slightly easier with less need for Plan B, C & D (90% of the time!)

City break or country escape?

I believe the UK has some of the best luxurious country escapes, located on our doorstep. With life getting back to its fast-paced normal self, I’m an advocate for fresh country air, time with nature and unique quintessentially British experiences.

The bucket list

As a project manager, I love a list and my bucket list is the largest! Getting up close to the big 5 currently tops my wish list. Exploring the unique properties and experiences safari has to offer and hopefully being able to give back to the animals or local community at the same time would be a dream come true.
